• How to become a search link magnet Posted by Henley at 2:28 am in SEO  | May 20, 2010

When it comes to online search engines, links play a vital role in enhancing the position of companies and organizations.  Links act as catalysts to the popularity of websites and, consequently, will help you in selling products and ideas.  And while search engines remain complicated in their rules, let’s breathe easy—becoming a link magnet is relatively easier to accomplish.  In other words, it is easy to understand why certain people decide to link to your website.  And why some people don’t.

Most people land on a website naturally because they are looking for something.  That something can be in the form of information, product item or even entertainment.  It is crucial then that the people are satisfied with what they receive. Then they might create a link to your website.  The process of link creation then is a two-way street between you and your site visitors.

Develop a strategy for personal branding.  Determine the primary purpose of the website.  Most websites are of course used to sell objects, services, or ideas. Do you want to attract clients? Provide job opportunities perhaps? Determining your site’s purpose ensures a more effective branding strategy. Your website should assume a distinctive and effective “personality” to lure people to visit the website and, hopefully, create links.  All this can facilitate in making the website’s presence felt in the cyberspace.

There are two major schools of thought on becoming a search link magnet.  The first one stresses on the importance of content quality.   Quality content is defined as something relevant to the niche and presented creatively.  Excellent content catches attention and propels the audience towards action.

The second school of thought stresses on providing incentives with linking.  The use of an incentive or reward strategy (often non-financial), shapes the psyche.  One of the best incentives comes in the form of mutual promotion of the linker’s website, an improvement on the old SEO practice called linkbait.  In linkbait, the content is built to attract links but the linkers are not necessarily rewarded.

While the two methods above are normally executed independent from each other, they can also be combined to produce a more potent formula for link magnetism.  Think of the possibilities. Endless.
