• Cebu is #1 in Outsourcing and Offshore Services Posted by admin at 4:14 am in Articles  | October 28, 2009 Print Post

Cebu once again proved its homegrown excellence in the recently concluded Tholons Globalization Service’s survey on outsourcing companies worldwide. Tholons is a strategic consultancy firm and is a leading publisher of research reports and detailed insights on the global outsourcing industry.

Cebu ranked 1st in the survey on “Emerging Global Outsourcing Destiantions” among 50 cities. Cebu City, being the only city from the country, maintained its ranking from the previous year. The survey started in 2007 where Cebu City ranked 4th.

Coming at 2nd and 3rd are China’s biggest cities, Shanghai and Beijing, while Krakow, Poland, and Ho Chi Minh Vietnam ranked 4th and 5th respectively. The top 50 list is dominated by mostly South American and East European cities.

Other Philippine cities also excelled in the outsourcing industry according to Tholons. One of which is Manila ranking 4th in the Top 8 Global Outsourcing Cities – a list which is dominated by 6 cities from Dubai and Dublin Ireland. Also, Iloilo ranked 3rd in Top 10 Aspiring cities in the outsourcing industry.

Scale and quality of workforce, business catalyst, cost, infrastructure, risk profile and quality of life were the six categories that the different outsourcing cities were evaluated upon.

Cebu’s vast workforce makes the province highly recommended for outsourcing. With different skilled individuals trained in prestigious schools with excellent English language proficiency, Cebu is filled with talented resources willing to render services to foreign clients. Reports Reports said that 65% of new graduates this 2009 landed on ICT and BPO jobs. One possible reason would be the strong university-industry tie-ups in the city.

The country’s prospect talents are made to improve through the efforts of government sectors. The Business Processing Association of the Philippines, for example, extended its program called “Roadmap 2010 Plan” aiming to develop the BPO industry in other cities nationwide and would also host its first International Outsourcing Summit this 21st – 22nd of October.

And since resources are very much well-rounded, the city can offer different types of service to clients: outbound and inbound call centers, customer service, graphic and web design, software and applications development, SEO and online marketing, and lots more.

The survey proves that in the continued growth of the outsourcing industry in Cebu, and the further improvement and immersion of outsourcing in other cities, Philippines has by far rendered a good outsourcing services to Western countries. But the greater fact here is that this growing industry continues to bring a rise to the Philippines economy – a positive fact that no survey result could outshine.
